Every species has a way to deal with harsh weather conditions, while the Siberian birds fly off to avoid the cold, we the people escape to hill stations to avoid summers!
So here are my list of top hill stations you must visit come what May!
1. Shimla – Summer Capital of British India
Visiting colonial buildings, taking a walk through oaks and pines, playing golf or skiing on mountain tops are just a few of the must-dos in Shimla.
2. Manali – Brilliant snowline, Lovely Orchards
Try white water rafting here or take a ride on the yak! A hot water dip and enjoy yummy momos. Visit the Buddhist monasteries and get lost in the beauty of the wilder.
3. Gangtok – The land of Gurkha, Lamas and foggy hills
Gangtok boasts of scenic landscapes that one can imagine only in picture books. The color comes out bright with the greenery, snow and colorful culture of lamas in their beautiful monasteries.
4. Ooty – The Sapphire in Blue Mountains Range
Ooty is located in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India. Its the most popular hillstation in south and the top choice destination for honeymooners and trekkers.
5. Munnar – Little London of India
Situated at the confluence of three mountain chains, Munnar is known for its climate and tea estates. The green hill station also boats of the highest mountain in south India – Anaimudi. Because of the likeness with the climate of London the erst while British officers made it their summer resort and affectionately labeled it “little London”
6. Coorg – Golfers Paradise
Coorg district in the state of Karnataka is also known as Kodagu which means “dense forest on steep hill”. So Coorg is set amidst imposing mountains of Western Ghat mountain ranges and is dotted with teak forests and beautiful valleys
7. Mahabaleswar – Strawberries, Mullberries and Honeymoon Retreat
Mahabaleswar is one of the most popular hill stations in west India. Both Mahabeleswar and Panchgani (another popular destination 5 km away) make a great combination as a summer retreat.
